Finnon Lake

The entire Campground is RESERVED the dates of 

August 4&5, August 11&12, September 8-11, September 15.


The swing bridge on Mosquito Road will be closed beginning August 14 and scheduled to re-open on September 15.  During this period, Finnon Lake can be reached from Rock Creek Road, which is accessible from  Hwy 193.

  • The lake is open for fishing - catch and release only, no bait.  Day Use fees apply.
  • Finnon Lake Recreation Area is monitored by MVFA volunteers, the Mosquito Fire Protection District and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department.
  • With the new dam, and after the rain storms of 2017, Finnon Lake is now full and back to how it looked over 20 years ago. 
  • The Finnon Lake perimeter road is closed to motor vehicles except for emergency. For safety, driving off the main road and driving around barricades is prohibited.  Violators are trespassing subject to arrest.
  • For Camping information, click on the "Camping" button at top of page.
  • Drop-in campers are welcome, but a campsite cannot be guaranteed without a reservation.  There are 19 campsites at the campground.

Finnon Recreation Area

  • This is the OFFICIAL Finnon Lake website.  Related information contained on any other website is not authorized by MVFA. 
  • Day Use fees are collected before entering the property for day use activities such as fishing, boating (including inflatables), swimming, picnicking  and disc golf. No fee for hiking and bicycling. To pay by credit card, call (530) 409-5515.
  • Annual Day Use Passes are now available to Mosquito residents. Call Dave Angelo at (530) 621-3688.
  • Finnon Lake Recreation Area is PRIVATE PROPERTY - owned and managed by Mosquito Volunteer Fire Association
  • Discharging any type of gun including air powered is prohibited.

  • Primary access to Finnon Lake is Rock Creek Road thru the main gate adjacent to the store.  Large trailers and campers must use Rock Creek Road.  The swing bridge on Mosquito road has width and weight restrictions, and trailers are prohibited.
  • Finnon Lake Recreation Area is closed after dark - except for registered campers.  Violators are trespassing subject to arrest.
  • Finnon Lake Campers under age 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian over age 21 during the entire time of their stay.
  • The store/cafĂ© building located at the entrance to Finnon Recreation Area is available for lease.  Call 530-409-5515 for information.
